Full M&E services for a stunning penthouse home

Background

Our client’s vision was to transform two former caretakers’ flats on the roof of Ambika House in Portland Place, London, into a striking seven-bedroom penthouse incorporating all the latest technology.

Challenge

With the home set to be primarily constructed from glass, a key challenge was to identify locations for the extensive ventilation and cooling systems. In addition, the plant room, which was originally sited on the roof of the building, had to be relocated to the basement. The works also required improvements to aspects of the infrastructure serving the numerous flats, offices and even a dental practice on the lower levels of Ambika House. These improvements would have to be undertaken without causing disruption to the other residents and businesses.

Solution

Commissioned direct by the client, we designed full M&E services to meet the demands of the extensive facilities planned for this stunning home.  For example, the plans included numerous complex systems including extensive home automation, a media room and state-of-the-art audio visual system throughout.  The design also featured full comfort cooling together with a lap pool on the third floor, enclosed in a sun room complete with a full width sliding glass roof. The main living space incorporates a green wall with its own internal watering system, which meant that the lighting around this area had to be carefully selected to benefit the plants.

Outcome

The M&E systems have brought this three-storey building to life and enabled the client to fill his home with robust engineering combined with cutting edge technology.
