Background

The 100 acre multi-use Andover Business Park has outlined planning permission for 1.6 million sq. ft. of B1, B2 and B8 uses for industrial, office and logistics space. Situated on the West side of Andover, the park has excellent access to a large local workforce.

BSD provided full electrical design services to the Co-operative’s 468,000 sq. ft. regional distribution centre situated on this business park. The distribution centre will handle 1.3m cases of fresh, frozen, chilled, and ambient products every week, to more than 400 stores across southern England.

Challenge

The project was a short-term fit out contract with very tight time constraints for both the design and construction periods.

Whilst the project was a new-build warehouse our design had to integrate the client’s existing equipment, with refrigeration loads being a particular challenge.

Solution

The steel structure comprises a warehouse, offices, maintenance workshops, chillers and large frozen food compartments. BSD provided full electrical design services for the project which included electrical infrastructure, small power and data, lighting, external lighting to the car park and services yard, CCTV and fire protection in the form of an aspiration system.

Outcome

The opening of the building marks completion of the first phase of development of the business park which is managed by Goodman’s.

The client achieved a central distribution warehouse of exceptional value which includes new technologies such as LED lighting to the frozen food storage area and the external lighting scheme.
