An innovative fit-out for a major defence company
The world’s leading aerospace company and the largest manufacturer of commercial jetliners and military aircraft, Boeing Defence UK, planned a £3 million Cat A fit-out of an existing Cat B office in Milton Keynes. The centre is part of the partnership between the MoD and Boeing Defence UK to transform the MOD’s support services and has been named Turing House, in recognition of the achievements of Alan Turing, the Second World War codebreaker.
Boeing Defence UK have a number of MOD contracts and ensuring secure data lines, storage and systems was paramount to our role in the design.
A very tight programme which included just six weeks for design and a twelve week construction period left no margin for error and client changes required quick turnaround of designs to prevent site delays.
Existing chillers and boilers were retained with 75% of each wing having new four pipe fan coil units installed. A secure comms room installation was constructed including close control cooling and a fire suppression system. The buildings incoming electrical supply was filtered for security purposes and a new stand-by generator was fitted. Two new separate data networks were installed, one for classified and one for unclassified data.
The new base for Boeing will see 400 workers relocate from four separate sites around the region coming together to provide support services for the MOD. This is a fantastic office environment which was delivered on time to enable various MOD departments to move into the new development as scheduled.
