“PCMS Design engaged BSD Consulting Engineers to advise on the performance specification for the mechanical and electrical installation on a large educational sports hall and classroom block project at Henlow Church of England Academy. We found their services to be invaluable in the early planning stages, and throughout the specification process when specialised M&E skills and knowledge was needed.”

Timeline: onsite – December 2017, completion – October 2018

BSD was appointed by PCMS Design to provide mechanical and electrical engineering services for the extension of Henlow Church of England Academy.

The extension includes:

• A new, six classroom block – compliant with the Department for Education standards

• A Sport England standard, four court sports hall (690 m2)

• A 88m2 storage facility

As a new, standalone building new services were required (electricity, gas, water and a fire alarm system), which also needed to be connected to the existing site’s services without impacting the running of the school. This was carefully – and successfully – managed to ensure minimum disruption to the main school site.

It was imperative that the project finished on time so, through working closely with the delivery team, the extension completed in time for the new school term to start.

The project was funded by Central Bedfordshire Council and the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA).
