We’re delighted to announce that we are working on a new 22-storey hotel in the heart of our city, which will create a contemporary new addition to Birmingham’s developing skyline.
What, where, when?
BLOC Grand Central is currently onsite at Hill Street, Birmingham and will:
- Cover 7,000 sqm
- Boast 22 storeys
- Feature 227 bedrooms in total
- And include a series of apartment-style accommodation – which will include kitchenette, lounges and separate bedrooms, with stunning views across the city
“The demolition of the site’s previous building – Gallan House – has now made way for this exciting new scheme. This project will go a long way in supporting the wider regeneration work taking place around Grand Central and New Street Station.
“It’s a very tall building so our biggest challenge was the splitting of water services.
“We had to design a system that would allow the correct amount of flow and pressure, serving every level of the building seamlessly. This was achieved through the boosted cold-water services being designed to utilise two different pump sets. This allows the lower half and upper half of the building to be served independently.
“BLOC Grand Central will have a tall, slim structure. It’s like nothing else we have in Birmingham and will represent a modern new addition to the city.
“Birmingham is quickly transforming into a world-class city. It’s encouraging to see national hotel operators commit to space here and is truly the sign of things to come.
“We’ve worked on a number of hotel schemes – from offsite builds to boutique hotels to the complete reconfiguration of hotel accommodations. This project builds on our experience and we look forward to seeing it in use.
“We’ve had a presence in Birmingham for more than 10 years. We’re incredibly proud to be involved in such a significant scheme in the heart of the city.”

“We have a fantastic team working on BLOC Grand Central, which has managed to fulfil and deliver on our brief. BSD has managed to overcome challenges the building presented and design a fit-for-purpose system.
“We’re delighted to be opening our third hotel, adjacent to Grand Central station in Birmingham. It’s an incredible city which has seen significant development over the last few years.”
